The Big Bang Blog : Day one

Blog  – Becca Lutwyche, Sellafield Ltd Graduate

The first day of the 2015 Big Bang fair at the NEC has proved a successful experience for Sellafield Ltd. Our stand had visits from thousands of visitors on this opening day to take part in our exciting activities and engage with the Sellafield graduates and placement students attending the fair.

Intelligent and enthusiastic young people from across the country were wholly engaged with the wide range of activities on offer. This year saw the return of popular activities including the glovebox challenge, a decommissioning activity and the catch a neutron experience.

As always Oscar the robot was a big crowd pleaser and encouraged visitors to attend our  stand to learn more while collecting their branded stationary. It was also really encouraging to see the two year 9 teams that had won our school competitions at Risley and Cumbria attending the fair and taking a special selfie with Oscar.

All visitors gave very positive feedback about the stand and were impressed at the educational and engaging nature of the activities.

Overall there were lots of smiles, laughter and fun had on this opening day of the fair. It was brilliant to see the students so dedicated to STEM activities, asking intelligent questions and confidently approaching problems. We hope to have inspired many of them to pursue a career in an industry as challenging yet rewarding as our own; as we continue to promote this message across the week.
